The IO reports that Cape Town-based watchdog group the Family Policy Institute has petitioned South Africa’s government to recall all music containing violent lyrics and all video games with violent content. FPI spokesman Errol Naidoo made the request, expressing the group’s concerns over potential negative influences on young people. The move comes in the wake of the samurai sword killing of a 16-year-old by a schoolmate who allegedly dressed himself like Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison. (See image below)

Preferring not to wait for any type of inquiry, Naidoo requested the recall of the games and CDs ”pending the outcome of the investigation”. Naidoo cited the case of two US teens who were convicted of murder in 2003 after stabbing a friend 20 times and slitting his throat after listening to Slipknot’s song “Disasterpiece”. He also cited the case of Bangkok teenager Polwat Chinno who had killed a taxi driver by punching and stabbing him after playing the computer game Grand Theft Auto. “Police believe he was acting out a scene in the violent video game,” Naidoo said.
- Errol Naidoo - There was no guarantee that removing violent music and games would prevent violent behavior, but that it would “provide added peace of mind for families”.

The above statement alone proves that Mr Naidoo is a douche bag of epic proportions. He has no interest what so ever in debating the real issues at hand, but only promoting his own moral agenda and pipe dreams of a violence free South Africa, and giving people a false sense of hope and piece of mind. People like Mr Naidoo scare the hell out of me why you ask? To think that there are people out there like him who would take away others rights so that they can have a false sense of security and hope…
The psychologist Jung once theorized that one of modern society’s greatest faults was that we have become so control obsessed that we have become paranoid over the idea of not being able to control everything.
- Carl Jung - The Shadow is the personification of that part of human, psychic possibility that we deny in ourselves and project onto others. The Shadow is the easiest of the archetypes for most persons to experience. We tend to see it in “others.” That is to say, we project our dark side onto others and thus interpret them as “enemies” or as “exotic” presences that fascinate.
I am sick and tired of the excuse “Satan made me do it” because blaming Satan seems to be the easy way out. Simply put some people don’t really want to own up to their actions or mistakes, so they end up blaming other around them for there actions. So next time you go “cockoo for cocoa puffs” blame Satan and the entertainment industry as it is the socially expectable way of doing things. This is not a case of “Satan or the entertainment industry made me do it” But a case of “I am mentally ill and have not received the proper treatment for my illness.”
This “social dilemma” we find ourselves in each time something like this happens is getting real old, real fast. So excuse me while I take a deep breath *sigh* and say “Ahh, fuck it.” I leave you with some food for thought by Carl Hung himself on persona and how it can influence us and the image we project to the world outside.
- Carl Jung - The persona represents your public image. The word is, obviously, related to the word person and personality, and comes from a Latin word for mask. So the persona is the mask you put on before you show yourself to the outside world. Although it begins as an archetype, by the time we are finished realizing it, it is the part of us most distant from the collective unconscious. At its best, it is just the “good impression” we all wish to present as we fill the roles society requires of us. But, of course, it can also be the “false impression” we use to manipulate people’s opinions and behaviors. And, at its worst, it can be mistaken, even by ourselves, for our true nature: Sometimes we believe we really are what we pretend to be!
[End rant]

FPI, and their spokesman Errol Naidoo, have a very weak, and flaky argument.
Slipknot (i dont own any of their albums, and im not a fan) have sold over 10 million records, but 2 people commit murders, and now its the music’s fault? What about the other 10 million listeners?
The Grand Theft Auto franchise has sold over 70 million copies worldwide. But one person who played the game murders someone, and now its because of the game?
If the FPI thinks that they will prevent violent games and music in South Africa by taking it off the shelves – guess what, there is something called the internet.
These people (FPI and Naidoo) should grow up, and think about the fact that the “samurai” murderer was a victim of bullying. If he wasnt bullied his entire school life, do you still think he would have murdered someone?
FPI and Errol Naidoo, i think you are a bunch of shortsighted idiots.
Allegedly he was wearing a black balaclava, please FPI, and their spokesman Errol Naidoo, show me the resemblance to the Slipknot drummer. The only issue I have, is that by blaming the entertainment industry, no one will ever know what the boy’s problem is. What happened to just being crazy!!
We should blame the moron not satan he has been chilling down under for how long and Slipknot causes people being killed then why aren’t there more slipknot deaths.
Hail SATAN! :P
